Integrated Dust Control System for Mining Operations /
Project Overview
Tier16 was engaged to deliver integrated dust control and SCADA solutions to improve the management, monitoring, control, and reliability of new dust collection systems.
The projects required consideration of integration with existing control system infrastructure, equipment interfaces, communications, and SCADA requirements.
Client Challenge
Dust generation from key mining activities, including rock crushing and ore tipping, presented ongoing health, safety, environmental and operational risks.
The client required a reliable solution capable of controlling dust at its source. Excessive dust emissions also had the potential to affect workforce, visibility, surrounding environments as well as compliance with environmental requirements.
A key requirement was providing operators with greater visibility and control of the dust collection system, allowing issues to be identified and addressed during operation.
Tier16 Solution
New control systems for the replacement dust collector systems were programmed, tested, and implemented. The existing dust collection systems were demolished, and the associated automation software was decommissioned.
A live SCADA system provides operators with real-time visibility of the dust collection activity and enables them to identify faults and respond to changing operating conditions.
Integration works were planned around scheduled shutdowns, reducing unplanned downtime.
Technologies Used
Project Outcomes & Impact
The integrated solutions improved the ability of site teams to monitor and manage dust conditions across the mining operations.
Reduced dust exposure and emissions, supporting a safer and cleaner working environment.
Improved system monitoring and operator visibility through live SCADA.
Improved air quality and dust management around the mining operations.
Reduced the potential for dust to be blown into surrounding towns.
