Marine Fuelling System Automation   /

Project Overview

Tier16 was engaged by EIG Australia Pty Ltd to deliver a complete automation and control solution for a newly installed fuelling system located at the Onslow Marine Support Base (OMSB). 

The system provides end-to-end control of fuel transfer operations from onshore storage tanks to marine vessels. 

Client Challenge

The client required an integrated control system to support the increase in fuelling capacity and speed through upgraded pipeline infrastructure.  

Slow marine fuelling operations can significantly impact vessel turnaround times, leading to delayed departures and reduced berth availability for other ships. These inefficiencies create operational bottlenecks, increasing costs across the terminal.

Over time, this can also reduce competitiveness, as operators prioritise faster and more reliable facilities. 

Tier16 Solution

Tier16 designed and implemented a fully integrated automation and control architecture, including hardware, software, and communications systems. Key elements included: 

  • A control system for managing unloading and dispensing fuel transfer operations for 3 on-shore large storage tanks
  • Radio communication system ensuring reliable real-time coordination between on-shore fuel tanks and dispensing container during fuel transfer operations
  • Real-time monitoring of tank levels, and transfer status
  • Custom control software was developed in-house by Tier16
