Powering Modern Automation with Ignition: A Partnership built on innovation

Tier16 is a leading industrial automation specialist, delivering consulting, design, integration, and support for operational technology (OT) solutions. As an Inductive Automation Gold Integrator, Tier16 leverages the Ignition SCADA platform to provide critical operational visibility and control for some of Australasia’s largest and most complex industrial enterprises.

A Shared Vision for Modern Industrial Operations

Tier16 and Inductive Automation are aligned in their mission to transform industrial operations through modern, scalable software. Inductive Automation’s technology roadmap focuses on open standards, IT/OT convergence, and rapid feature evolution – principles that Tier16 actively adopts in client solutions. Through close collaboration with the Ignition ecosystem, Tier16 implements capabilities such as event-driven architectures, modern historians, and web-based visualisation. This ensures clients benefit from future-ready platforms rather than being constrained by legacy SCADA systems.

Built for Scale and Resilience

Scalability is central to the Tier16 Inductive Automation partnership. Ignition’s unlimited licensing model and modular architecture enable seamless growth from single-site deployments to enterprise-wide systems without prohibitive cost or redesign. Tier16 complements this with robust system architectures designed for high availability, multi-site operations, and long-term expansion, an approach proven across mining and energy sectors. Together, Tier16 and Inductive Automation are aligned in delivering modern industrial software that empowers asset owners to improve operational visibility, integrate seamlessly with enterprise systems and position clients for sustained performance in an increasingly digital and data-driven future.
“Working with Heshan Rajakaruna at Inductive Automation has always been outcomes-focused, combining great technology with practical delivery to help customers unlock more value from their operations,” said Clayton Duncan, Business Development Manager at Tier16.

Addressing Modern Industrial Challenges

Industrial organisations today face a range of evolving challenges: Legacy systems that limit flexibility and modernisation
    • IT/OT convergence complexity when integrating operational and enterprise systems
    • Visibility gaps caused by siloed data and fragmented monitoring
    • Scalability pressures as operations expand without proportional increases in budget
Ignition addresses these challenges through a unified, flexible platform that enables real-time visibility, seamless integration, and scalable architectures. Through their partnership, Tier16 and Inductive Automation have delivered solutions for leading Australian organisations including BHP Minerals Australia and Synergy Electricity, supporting complex environments with real-time visibility, operational resilience, and scalable OT architectures.

BHP – Enterprise Visibility at Scale

Tier16 was engaged to provide key resources for the deployment of Ignition software within BHPs Technology Remote Operating Centre (TROC), spanning more than 20 sites and 27 network domains, and managing over half a million tags (including 328,140 active data monitoring points). This implementation delivered a unified, single-pane-of-glass view for both site operations and enterprise stakeholders, significantly improving response times to process anomalies through enhanced alarm management. It also accelerated reporting and analytics using Ignition’s built-in tools and Python scripting, while establishing a scalable OT data platform aligned with BHP’s broader digital transformation and IIoT initiatives.

Synergy – Enabling a Future-Ready Energy Network

For Western Australia’s largest electricity generator and retailer, Tier16 contributed key resources and specialist personnel to enable the development and deployment of Ignition SCADA system across generation assets, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and grid-facing infrastructure, with direct integration into market operator and network systems. The solution enabled real-time asset monitoring through a unified SCADA platform, improved operator visibility and alarm management for performance optimisation, and delivered a scalable architecture capable of supporting emerging energy technologies.

Looking Ahead: Innovation and Capability Building

The strategic partnership between Tier16 and Inductive Automation provides a strong foundation for Australian organisations seeking to modernise their OT environments. By delivering flexible, scalable SCADA system solutions, the collaboration supports improved visibility, seamless enterprise integration, and reduced lifecycle costs. As industrial organisations increasingly adopt IIoT and data-driven strategies, Tier16 and Inductive Automation are well positioned to support Australia’s broader digital transformation. Education and workforce development are also key to this evolution. Inductive University offers extensive free training resources, helping Tier16 engineers build capability and achieve certifications such as Ignition Core and Gold Certification.
“Working with Ignition has been a positive experience from both a technology and learning perspective,” said Andrew Walker, Control Systems Engineer at Tier16. “Inductive University provides extensive free video lessons that are invaluable when preparing for certifications like Ignition Core. The platform helped me quickly build confidence developing HMI screens and configuring the flow of data between devices and gateway networks.”
“The certification process ensures that I am aware of the features and capability of Ignition. Consequently, it is possible to deliver optimal solutions quickly,” said Bradley Phillips, currently delivering the BHP project and recently achieving Gold re-certification for v8.3.
By combining cutting-edge technology with continuous learning and capability development, Tier16 and Inductive Automation are not only delivering high-performance SCADA solutions today but also building the expertise needed for tomorrow. This enduring partnership ensures organisations are equipped to adapt, scale, and thrive in an increasingly connected and data-driven industrial automation landscape.
